eselect 1.0 released
Version 1.0 of eselect, the modular
configuration framework, has been released. For developers, eselect
simplifies the creation of -config and -update tools in the same way
that the original ebuild simplified building software. For end users,
eselect provides a more consistent interface and, as a side effect,
implements part of GLEP 24 by
making it easy to find available configuration tools.
Interested users may install app-admin/eselect, if they do not have it
already. There is also a user
guide and a developer
guide available online.

Gentoo international
Poland: Fluffy Gentoo
Plusiaczek Linux (roughly
translates to "fluffy" in English) has been released. Plusiaczek is an i686
LiveCD based on Gentoo and designed as a general purpose distro for Polish
Linux users. It ships with KDE 3.5.1, packing only what the author considers
its most useful applications, and a set of others like Wine, k3b, Koffice,
Scribus, Frozen-bubble, PHP, MySQL, Postgres and XFCE. The 577MB ISO can be
downloaded
from sourceforge, is entirely in Polish, but can be "remastered" to use any
other language. Author Piotr Maliński can be contacted by
email or via the web site (of which an English
version is available, too).

Florian Grässle of OpenUsability.org
