Happy New Year
Welcome to the first edition of the GWN for 2007! This marks the beginning of
the 6th year of the Gentoo Weekly Newsletter, which was started by Kurt Lieber on 23 Dec 2002 with contributions
from the community. Since that time, there have been more than 200 issues of the
Gentoo Weekly Newsletter. The GWN staff looks forward to another year of
providing the community with information about Gentoo.
First 2007 Gentoo Bugday
Saturday the 6th of January is the date for the first Bugday event in 2007 to
take place. As usual, join #gentoo-bugs on irc.freenode.net and hang out
there and help out making Gentoo and even better distribution.
There are a lot of new members in the Bugday team that will be at your service
to help you with different ways to resolve bugs. If you have any questions,
feel free to contact Alexander Færøy by
either email or on IRC. Peter Weller and
Bryan Østergaard will be available to
help on Bugday.
The Bugday team wishes everyone a happy new year and hopes you'll participate in
the event.

Russia: Gentoo meeting, Moscow
On Saturday, 23 December 2006, there was a meeting of Russian members of the
Gentoo community. Currently, the Russian Gentoo community is split into two
independent groups: the official Russian translators team and the team that
supports the Russian Gentoo forums and other Gentoo community resources. Both
of these teams put effort into translation of the documentation and GWN. It's
clear that consolidation of efforts is beneficial for both of the teams and for
the users. This decision was made between Peter
Volkov from the Russian translation team and Anton Chaplygin and Anton Senkovsky from the forums team.
Another part of meeting was devoted to playing with exciting beryl desktop
effects, solving logical problems, beer and fun. Photos are available on
gentoo.ru.

Gentoo package moves
This section lists packages that have either been moved or added to the tree
and packages that have had their "last rites" announcement given to be removed
in the future. The package removals come from many locations, including the Treecleaners and various developers. Most
packages which are listed under the Last Rites section are in need of some love
and care and can remain in the tree if proper maintainership is established.
