La semaine passée, Gentoo Linux était présente à la LinuxWorld Expo dans le pavillon .org. Gentoo Linux 1.4 est sortie à l'occasion du premier jour d'exposition et 300 CDs ont été distribués en seulement 4 heures. Des CDs étaient disponibles pour architecture Pentium III, Pentium 4, Athlon XP et PPC. Tous nos visiteurs ont reçu une description enthousiaste de Gentoo ainsi que des dépliants sur Gentoo, sur le projet de clustering de Gentoo et le projet Hardened Gentoo.
De nombreuses démonstrations ont eu lieu sur notre stand. Quelques machines x86 tournaient une version béta du jeu Savage qui sera bientôt disponible. Gentoo Linux sur PPC était présentée sur un Mac G3 et un iBook. Sun Microsystems nous ont gracieusement prêté un Ray 150 que nous avons ajouté à nos démonstrations après avoir installé Gentoo dessus. Nous avons aussi montré localement un cluster Gentoo installé ailleurs ainsi qu'une installation de Hardened Gentoo.
Nous avons beaucoup apprécié de pouvoir rencontrer des utilisateurs de Gentoo, de les écouter nous raconter leurs expériences et nous complimenter. Nous avons ainsi pu mettre des visages sur les pseudos et établir de nouveaux liens avec des utilisateurs et d'autres groupes présents à l'expo.
La tombola organisée à la fin de la conférence a permis à Nathan Chilton et à Muthuvale Shanmugam de remporter respectivement un système Pentium 4 et une imprimante Epson. Toutes nos félicitations aux gagnants !
Gentoo Documentation Project recherche un nouveau responsable des traductions en néerlandais
Le responsable actuel des traductions en néerlandais, Sven Vermeulen, a décidé de quitter ce poste pour se concentrer pleinement sur ses activités de gestionnaire opérationnel du projet de documentation Gentoo. Nous le remercions pour son travail dans l'équipe néerlandophone. Nous recherchons dès lors un nouveau responsable des traductions en néerlandais. Il devra coordonner les traductions, les vérifier et les placer dans le CVS pour qu'elles soient disponibles sur le site web. Le candidat devra maîtriser l'anglais et le néerlandais écrits. La connaissance de XML et CVS est un plus mais peut être acquise après l'entrée en fonction si nécessaire. Les intéressés peuvent envoyer un courriel à Sven.

Le projet GLIS recherche des développeurs
Promis à un bel avenir, le projet GLIS (Gentoo Linux Installation Script) recherche des programmeurs pour développer l'interface.

Gentoo Linux dans une autre revue brésilienne
La revue mensuelle brésilienne PcMaster, plutôt destinée aux utilisateurs avancés, propose Gentoo dans son dernier numéro.
Celui-ci contient un LiveCD Gentoo avec KDE 3.1.2, XFree86 4.3.0, Totem, noyau 2.4.20, Gnome 2.2.1, Gxine et plein d'autres applications prêtes à l'emploi.

Trucs et astuces
Utiliser script
Cette semaine, nous vous montrons comment utiliser script pour sauver
ou partager tout ce qui s'affiche pendant une session sur un terminal.
Cela peut être un bon moyen de montrer à distance comment utiliser la ligne
de commande. C'est aussi un moyen de garder une trace de ce que vous faites ou
avez fait dans une session.
Regardons d'abord comment garder une trace de vos actions. Il suffit
d'entrer la commande script. Tout le texte affiché sera sauvé
dans un fichier nommé typescript. Si vous voulez nommer
le fichier, utilisez script nom_du_fichier.

Regardons maintenant comment partager une session. Le plus facile est d'utiliser
script avec mkfifo qui crée un named pipe.
Remarquez qu'il faut utiliser l'option -f (script -f) pour provoquer
l'envoi du texte au fur et à mesure. De cette façon, le texte entré par
l'utilisateur A est vu pratiquement en temps réel par l'utilisateur B.
