GDP Status Report
1.
Status Reports
Preliminaries
This is the status of the Gentoo Documentation Project. It will be posted
regularly, but not with a static frequency. All questions can be posted to
gentoo-doc@gentoo.org or to
me personally.
The Gentoo Documentation Project, from now on abbreviated to GDP, has its own
project page (just like almost all other Gentoo projects). You can find it at
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gdp.
Content
This status mail will briefly discuss the following tasks, objectives and/or
projects related to the GDP:
2.
TODO List
Sven Vermeulen has posted a preliminary
TODO list that - amongst the pile of bugreports - need to be resolved. A tad
later this TODO list is added to the GDP Website
as a separate resource.
Developers interested in taking on a challenge posed by the TODO list can always
inform the gentoo-doc mailinglist.
3.
Status Updates on a per-developer basis
From now on, all GDP Developers are required to post a monthly status update on
their own personal achievements. Such a status update, which must be mailed to
gentoo-doc, contains at least:
- what the developer did the last month
- what the developer is planning on doing the upcoming month(s)
- what issues the developer had that he couldn't resolve
4.
Updated Documentation
The following documentation has been updated to a great extend:
5.
Draft DRP Proposal
Sven Vermeulen has launched a proposal to
provide DRPs to the Gentoo community. The proposal is in the first stage and
will not be persued before the other documentation issues are finished.
More information can be found on Sven's Dev-page.
6.
Handbook Updates
The Gentoo Installation
Instructions have been altered to deal with the upcoming 2004.0 release.
Changes include:
-
Moving GRP-specific instructions to the end of the installation procedure
for the x86 and ppc architectures
-
Update on the LiveCD structure as no more packages will be provided by the
first LiveCD of the 2-CD LiveCD set in case of x86 and ppc
-
Updates on the Installing the
Gentoo Installation Files
7.
Documentation Links
The Documentation Index has been updated to
point to the relevant Gentoo Handbook chapters (for USE flags, Portage stuff,
Environment Variables and Initscripts).
The links to the old gentoo-*-install.xml guides have been removed
as those installation instructions are obsoleted.
