GDP Status Report

1.  Status Reports

Preliminaries

This is the status of the Gentoo Documentation Project. It will be posted regularly, but not with a static frequency. All questions can be posted to gentoo-doc@gentoo.org or to me personally.

The Gentoo Documentation Project, from now on abbreviated to GDP, has its own project page (just like almost all other Gentoo projects). You can find it at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gdp.

Content

This status mail will briefly discuss the following tasks, objectives and/or projects related to the GDP:

2.  New / Updated Documentation

Joshua Preston has written a coLinux HOWTO. Don't know what coLinux is? Think UML but for Windows :)

The Gentoo Handbook's have been updated to reflect the 2004.1 installation instructions.

The Gentoo Desktop Configuration Guide has been updated with many thanks to numerous contributions through bugzilla.

The uDev Guide is updated to reflect the new baselayout (which is in stable) and with a new section on Q&A.

The UML Guide is updated to be usable again :)

The Gentoo Security Guide now has a section about glsa-check in it.

3.  Gentoo Handbook part III

The third part of the Gentoo Handbook is progressing slowly. Currently, we have the following chapters ready:

The only chapter remaining is called Integrating in a Network and should focus on how users can integrate their Gentoo system in a Windows environment, providing interoptability using SAMBA.

The main idea is to release this third part as "official" (after a few QA measures) and add additional chapters when deemed appropriate. This because we don't want to keep the documentation hidden from the users, while we know that there are still many subjects regarding desktop configuration that aren't covered yet.
