Status Reports
Preliminaries
This is the status of the Gentoo Documentation Project. It will be posted
regularly, but not with a static frequency. All questions can be posted to
gentoo-doc@gentoo.org or to
me personally.
The Gentoo Documentation Project, from now on abbreviated to GDP, has its own
project page (just like almost all other Gentoo projects). You can find it at
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gdp.
Content
This status mail will briefly discuss the following tasks, objectives and/or
projects related to the GDP:

The Diskless HOWTO now has
correctly functioning rsync commands.
A new asset to the documentation repository is the OpenBoot PROM Reference for the SPARC
architecture.
Another new asset is the Quick Samba
HOWTO.
The Gentoo Security Guide now has
a MySQL section as well.
Gregorio Guidi has written a Gentoo
Upgrading Guide which covers all aspects about upgrading a Gentoo system,
including information on profiles and when to change one profile to another.
A couple of new desktop-specific guides are added as well:
Finally, the Gentoo Development Policy and
Gentoo Ebuild/Developer HOWTO have
been updated with the correct versioning information for Portage.

Gentoo Handbook Change
In a lengthy e-mail
on the gentoo-doc mailinglist Sven
Vermeulen proposes not to finish the third part of the Gentoo
handbook due to several reasons.
Instead, all desktop-related documentation will be linked from a central location (where the Desktop
Configuration Guide is situated) and updated to contain the latest and
greatest information.
All already-written chapters for the third part will be migrated to individual
guides and a request is posed for more contributions regarding desktop-related
items, such as a Laptop-HOWTO.
